Chess in Brussels

Learning chess in Brussels 9

About this page

In Brussels, chess is taught mostly by the clubs themselves rather than by separate schools. The Brussels Chess Club gives group lessons on Monday before its tournament evening at Het Huys in Uccle and more courses through the Parascolaire d'Uccle; The Belgian Chess Club teaches every level on Wednesday afternoons and beginners on Friday in Anderlecht; Excelsior in Ganshoren and the Watermael-Boitsfort club run Wednesday chess schools; the Woluwe 1200 club gives courses on Tuesday evening and Saturday morning, and Les Deux Fous in Etterbeek also appear among the teaching clubs.

Outside the region, De Zwarte Dame in Halle begins each Saturday with an hour of lessons, and Braine Échecs teaches at the Athénée Royal in Braine-l'Alleud on Friday. Two more courses, at Le PAWS in Ixelles and at the Imagine cultural centre in Wezembeek-Oppem, appear only in a guide of March 2025 and are marked unconfirmed. Prices, where a club prints them, are on its card.
