About this page
The Brussels calendar is built around memorials, tournaments that carry the name of a club figure and come back each year. Two are long games over several weeks, rated at ninety minutes plus thirty seconds: the Mémorial Albert Dethiou, which runs through the autumn, and the Mémorial René Vannerom in January and February. Their FIDE records give the same chief organiser, whom the federation register lists as tournament director of the Cercle Royal des Échecs de Bruxelles.
Two are one-day rapids: the Memorial Jose & Hilda Tonoli at De Rinck in Anderlecht at the end of August, held as the Belgian rapid championship, and the Paul Marcus Memorial Grand Rapid at Het Huys in Uccle in spring. The Interclubs Bruxellois puts teams of four from the Brussels clubs against each other, in a rapid edition and a blitz edition. Venues and dates change between editions; the organiser's page is the last word.
